The layered cut in pure 90s style is hotter than ever. Bella Hadid, Paris Jackson, Alexa Chung and Lucy Hale are just some of the trendsetters wearing the cut which suits any face shape, hair type and age. We give you the keys to this season’s hottest trend.
Some call it a long bob, but the updated layering technique is much more than just a choppy cut. With this hairstyle you can create movement and volumes on different levels allowing gentle waves to appear on straight hair or counterbalance the excessive volume of curls.
The Neo-layered look is a precision technique which gives the overall effect of a homogeneous haircut (without big leaps between layers) which is used to create the desired result. It can be adapted well to any type of hair as it permits a wide variety of versions to create different effects. For example, in the case of Paris Jackson, daughter of pop legend Michael, the aim was to create additional volume on top. Alexa Chung, on the other hand, has gone for added volume on the middle zone, just at cheek height. Another option is Bella Hadid’s, who wore the “neo-layered” cut designed to thin out, mixing up different subtle layering techniques around her face to increase the overall feel of volume in her originally straight hair.

Square face This cut can create a more oval effect, with additional volume on the top layer with some, almost invisible, layering. Helps to soften facial features.
Triangular and rhomboid face
Except on faces with very strong features, the start point is the chin which gives a rounder effect, softening the most pronounced jawlines. In the case of less prominent features, volume can be counterbalanced as desired.
Oval and rectangular face
We recommend layering which adds volume around the sides of the face to reduce length.
Round face
To create length, add movement at collarbone height. If your hair is medium length, increase volume on top to get the same subtle lengthening effect which will make your face appear more oval.
It’s a very versatile look and apt for any kind of hair, except XL or very fine-haired manes.
