09/07/2021
We wash our hair all the time, but are we doing it right? Aside from whether we wash it every day or not, there are a series of steps that should be followed to get the hair washing process right and end up with perfectly beautiful and shiny hair. We clear up all your doubts.
The time has come for you to learn the right way to wash your hair. You’re probably thinking that washing your hair is simply shampooing, rinsing and conditioning then finishing off with a shot of cold water to give your hair some extra shine. Are these the steps that should be followed? Keep reading...
Brush first
It’s important to brush out any tangles before washing. This will also help you to eliminate any product buildup and bacteria, stimulate blood circulation and allow the shampoo and conditioner to penetrate better.
Regulate the water temperature
The best option is lukewarm water. Hot water opens the cuticle to let out oils and residues but can dry hair and cause frizz. Cold water will help hydrate your hair but we doubt you’ll be able to stand it the whole time.
With the water at the right temperature, rinse your hair then massage the roots for a few seconds to remove any dirt that’s built up on the scalp and stimulate hair growth.
How to shampoo
Don’t apply shampoo directly. First place into your palms then start with the root, working the shampoo through with your fingertips. Let the rest of your hair get washed with the lather that works its way down the hair’s length. The younger hair is close to the scalp and can be more oily. The ends are dry and fragile and bearing in mind that they’re most delicate when wet, aggressive washing should be avoided to prevent split ends.
The importance of massage
Rushing will never get you anywhere. Take your time (around 3 minutes approximately) to massage the scalp and lift the roots.
We bet you’ve asked yourself, should I shampoo twice? It depends. If you wash your hair often then you can just shampoo once but twice is still recommendable, the first time simply to clean and the second to massage.
Rinsing
It’s important to rinse well to make sure you don’t leave any product behind and then finish off with a blast of cold water to get added natural shine and volume.
The conditioner
It’s the best way to stop the ends from drying out. Use a generous amount of conditioner and make sure you smooth it along the hair from ear-height to ends. Leave it to work for five minutes and then rinse well. We recommend that you put your hair up on top of your head to stop it coming into contact with your skin, as the oils in this kind of product can cling to the skin and obstruct your pores.
