Bowl hair, the sharpest cut in town

The most iconic haircut of the 70s is back and set to conquer street style. Also known as the boule, it’s certainly a favorite among the stars. We share all the keys to getting this look just right. One of the most iconic haircuts of the 70s has finally found its way out from the back of the closet, the haircut known in French as the boule  and in English as the bowl cut, is back and set to become one of the star cuts of this season.

What is the bowl haircut?

This cut is just a reinterpretation of the bowl cut we inherited from French muse Jean Seberg which became a big trend in the early nineties thanks to Demi Moore’s role in the movie Ghost. The cut itself is a cross between a bob and a pixie and generally sits above the collarbone. It’s cut in long layers or with waves which gives the look a more natural, less rigid feel.   This look is so versatile. You can grab a brush and dryer and wear it straight or go for waves or curls. You can also give it a touch of form at the tips for a natural, and very French, feel or you can go for the pin-straight effect to create a more serious and sophisticated finish. And best of all, however you wear it, it’s going to look super-cool.

Who does the bowl cut suit?

And you may ask yourself; why has it risen in popularity? Because the cut is associated with female liberation and, in particular with independent working women. It’s the reflection of a woman who is modern, open and self-confident and wants to demonstrate her worth to the world. If you’re ready to try out the look, then you should bear in mind that it suits, rectangular, square and of course, oval faces. However, you should forget this look right now if your face is round. It won’t do you any favors.

Although you might not think so, you’ve seen it hundreds of times on some of the most international fashion icons. From the editor of Vogue, Anna Wintour, to singer Taylor Swift, and many others like Katie Holmes, Tyra Banks and even Rihanna. corte-cabello-mujer-bowl-katieSo why not let your most elegant side shine!
