Always on the pulse of the latest trends, Salerm Cosmetics presents Biokera Vegan, the hair color that’s 100% vegan and organic, perfect for Biolovers. A grand innovation in the hairdressing sector which requires a whole new way of working. Would you like to hear all about our new vegan hair care and color system? Biokera Vegan’s plant based pigments boast all of the best properties found in Hindu Ayurvedic medicine. The end result is great gray coverage and nourished, hydrated hair full of strength and volume. Many of you have shown interest in this latest development in hair color. How does it work? What gray coverage does it offer? How long is exposure time? Is it suitable for all skin types? These are just some of the questions that you’ve asked and which today we’re going to answer. So grab a pen and paper because we’re about to begin.

What do you mean when you say that Biokera Vegan is an organic plant dye?

This new system involves no chemicals, preservatives or any element of animal origin. Its formula is made up purely of plant actives which are both organic and eco-friendly. It’s a combination of different plants used in Ayurvedic botany which, aside from pigmenting, offer excellent hair care  to leave it stronger and shinier. A certified organic product means that none of its ingredients have been treated with fertilizers, herbicides or chemical pesticides, nor has the ground where they are grown.

The plants used in the hair color system come from Ayurvedic medicine, but what is Ayurvedic medicine?

Ayurveda is the name of traditional Hindu medicine. Ayurvedic medicine is based on plants which are used to care for the body and mind (and in this case, to care for your hair and leave it stronger and shinier).

It’s based on plants so, can it be used on any type of skin or hair?

Yes, Biokera Vegan is suitable for all types of hair, it not only adds color but is also a powerful hair care treatment that strengthens the hair fibers and balances the scalp. However, when using on very light or bleached hair we recommend doing a strand test first. So, it’s suitable for all types of skin thanks to its treating  properties and 100% plant composition. Although it’s still necessary to carry out a sensitivity test 24 to 48 hours before. Another piece of advice that we would give you is to use a skin protector around the hairline to prevent the product from staining the skin during application.

I read that it doesn’t lift color, why not?

Exactly. Because it’s a totally plant based and organic treatment, it won’t lift hair color. Unlike oxidation hair color, it doesn’t lift the hair cuticle to penetrate the hair shaft, rather its plant pigments become attached to the hair’s keratin, enveloping and impregnating it. The result is a beautiful bicolor effect that will bring out the different hues resulting in a brighter and bolder result.

Does Biokera Vegan cover gray?

Its composition has been developed to guarantee maximum pigmentation of gray hair. So, although it doesn’t have the capability to lift, but it can deposit pigment, it creates a bicolor effect on gray hair, which will be more or less noticeable depending on the natural base color and percentage of gray, resulting in a brighter and more vivid end color.

How long will it last?

Hair color duration is similar or even better than oxidation hair color with synthetic colorants and with less variability in color tone over the course of time. However, just as with oxidation dyes, the results and duration will depend largely on the application process and the condition and quality of the hair. The exposure time is the key to the whole process. Reducing the exposure time can affect intensity and color duration. Time can vary from between 30 to 60 minutes depending on the color you’re using and the desired intensity. However, for optimum results it should be left on for 60 minutes (preferably with heat). If the hair you’re working with has a high percentage of gray then we recommend leaving the product on the maximum possible time. You must remember that the end result will depend not only on the hair’s initial color, but also on the application technique and exposure time.

How is it different from an oxidation hair dye?

Organic plant-based hair color adheres to the cuticle without the need of an alkali to lift the cuticle and allow the product to penetrate, so is much kinder to the hair fibers. Plant hair color protects the hair fibers which are strengthened during the application process to achieve more volume and shine.

Which hair care products should you recommend to your customers?

In line with the same vegan philosophy, we recommend using the Green Shot shampoo and the Green Shot balsam from the Biokera Fresh range. Both are vegan and both hydrate, clean and thoroughly detoxify hair for maximum freshness and vitality. So now you know a little bit more about our 100% plant-based, vegan and organic hair color and treatment. However, if you want to work with the product in your salon we recommend attending on of the training sessions we’re organizing in the countries where the product is available.
