The right way to brush your hair

Contrary to what you might think, daily brushing doesn’t provoke hair loss. On the contrary; it helps to keep it strong and shiny. It’s a routine that not only helps keep hair clean but also contributes to exfoliation of the scalp. But...are you doing it right? If you want to have shiny, soft and silky hair it’s essential to brush twice a day for a minute; once in the morning and once before going to bed. The benefits of daily brushing The benefits are many. Brushing hair stimulates micro-blood-circulation and softens the scalp, but it also eliminates any impurities that may have built up during the day. Also, if you brush the hair cuticles correctly, in a downwards stroke, your hair will look smoother and shinier. How often should you brush? Ideally you should brush twice a day, every day, but you can do it as often as necessary to loosen any tangles and free your hair from impurities. It’s important to remember that it’s better to brush your hair when dry which is when our hair is strongest and most resistant. The best time to brush is before a shower to remove any residues of hairspray, gel or mousse and make hair easier to manage after washing. If we brush wet hair, it is easily broken. That’s why if you want to untangle it’s better to use a wide-toothed comb and start with the ends and slowly work your way upwards. Never drag hard on the comb which could hurt you and your hair! Once the ends are untangled, work from neck level. A foolproof tip for easy untangling is to use Salerm 21 Bi-Phase conditioner, which instantly conditions, untangles and repairs to leave hair looking healthy, shiny and frizz-free. The importance of brush direction The key to brushing is to always start with the ends, without pulling or tugging and holding each section at the root. Then continue onto the middle section and finish by brushing from the root to ends. Start brushing from the neck area and separate hair into sections. Once the hair is totally tangle-free, use the brush to massage gently to stimulate growth and strengthen. Which is better…. a brush or comb? It’s easy: a comb for wet hair and a brush for dry hair to prevent damage. Choosing the perfect brush It’s always better to use natural materials and avoid plastic and metal brushes. Another good option are brushes with silicone bristles, which won’t create static. When it comes to shape, a paddle brush with long bristles is great for massaging and stimulating the scalp.
